STCW 95

STCW 95 refers to the “Standards of Trainng, Certification and Watchkeeping” for mariners. The STCW 95 standards were introduced by the
International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 1995 following agreement by 154 maritime nations around the world.

STCW 95 is part of maritime law and is enforced around the world. Whilst it covers all certification and training across the entire maritime industry the term STCW or STCW 95 is normally used to describe the
basic maritime safety training that all crew must undertake before they can go to sea, and covers:
  • Fire fighting;
  • First Aid & CPR;
  • Personal Survival; and
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
