Module 2 - Basic theory

- Rope work
- Collision aviodance and basic Rules of the Road
- Marine weather - what to look for and what to watch out for
- Sails and sail handling (if applicable)
- Boat handling under power
- Man overboard
- Safety equipment and on board safety
- Vessel equipment and instruments
- Machinery checks and maintenance
- Deck seamanship - stowage, use of ropes, lines and fenders, mooring
- Sails and sail handling
- Vessel handing skills under both sail (if applicable) and power
- Nautical knowledge
- Rule of the Road including lights, shapes and sound signals
- Charts, Compass and chartwork
- Selecting and using different types of sails
- Marine manners, customs and etiquette
- Safety checks
- Deck seamanship - docking and mooring
- Sails and sail handling, bending on, hoisting, lowering and reefing
- Steering, tacking, gibing, sailing a triangular course, sailing a compass course, heaving to, Man overboard, anchoring and mooring (if on a sail boat)
- Vessel handling including multi engines, bow thrusters, high and slow speed turns, Willamsons turns, anchoring, picking up a mooring buoy
- Dinghy theory - types of tenders, engines, spares, maintenance, safety equipment, care of crew and operations
- Practical - Safety checks, handling with oars, engine, steering by compass, operational safety, launching and recovery, transfer to and from dinghy to mother vessel of dock, coming alongside, beaching and launching from beach, handling with wind and current.
